Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland lauded by Alan Rough after what he did recently

Alan Rough was blown away by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland’s save in the 2-1 victory over St Mirren on 28 April.

The former Scotland keeper believes it was due to that stop as to why Gers are still in the title race.

As things stand, Celtic hold a three-point cushion over their arch rivals with the same number of games played.

Rough told PLZ Soccer on 3 May at 16:38: “Jack Butland had a save against St Mirren. It was an absolutely unbelievable instinct save. If that goes in the league’s over and that’s how tight the rope that Rangers are going on.

“They’re they’re not playing that great but they’re winning games but I always think when you say, ‘All right it’s just about winning games’ it means you’re not playing as well as what you should be but neither a Celtic as well.”

Jack Butland has been the best player for Rangers this season

Butland’s outstanding performance this season has been pivotal to Rangers’ success, particularly in their pursuit of the title against rivals Celtic.

Rough’s praise highlights the Englishman’s crucial role in maintaining his team’s title hopes, especially with his save against St Mirren.

This season, Butland has proven himself as their best player, with a save percentage of 76%, via Fbref, a testament to his exceptional goalkeeping skills.

However, Gers need to improve their overall performance to capitalise on Celtic’s potential slip-ups.

Despite holding a three-point lead, Celtic’s form has also been inconsistent, giving their rivals opportunities to close the gap.

Philippe Clement’s side must focus on playing to their full potential to take advantage of any chances they get.

There’s still plenty left to play for, including another Old Firm so they cannot lose heart over this.
