Rangers defender Leon Balogun new contract update emerges

Philippe Clement has now left the door open for Rangers defender Leon Balogun to sign a new contract at Ibrox this summer.

The Nigeria international has been linked with an exit as his contract at the Scottish club runs out at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old move to Glasgow last summer as he signed on as a free agent.

Clement said, as quoted by the Daily Record (3 May): “Leon is somebody who showed every day the right mentality, the right passion for the club. So that can be something that is on the table at the end of the season.

“But it is the end of the season that we can make a really good evaluation about everything and everybody. It’s going to be a very interesting period in that way for us to make the right decisions for next season also.

“To see how everybody trains, plays, behaves, works, shows resilience in the next couple of weeks because you want to be successful with this club so we need the right players in the building.”

Rangers must hand Leon Balogun a one-year contract

Keeping a veteran like Balogun at Ibrox could indeed be a beneficial move for the club, despite his age and the need for only a short-term contract.

At 35 years old, Balogun brings a wealth of experience to the team, which can be invaluable both on and off the pitch.

His experience can provide leadership and guidance to younger players in the squad.

This mentorship can help nurture the development of the next generation of Rangers players, fostering a stronger team culture and unity.

Balogun has proven his worth on the field, with his recent performances showing he still has the skills and fitness to compete at a high level.

His resilience and defensive capabilities can be crucial assets in certain matches, especially against physically demanding opponents.

Moreover, Balogun’s versatility and adaptability make him a valuable squad member.

He can be called upon to fill in for other defenders or play in different tactical formations, providing the manager with more options and flexibility so a one-year deal must be on the cards.
