Connor Goldson exit prediction emerges at Rangers after ‘unfortunate’ Ibrox development
Rangers defender Connor Goldson has not yet played his last game in a Gers shirt despite an “unfortunate” new injury, according to Neil McCann.
The Englishman, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer transfer window at Ibrox, will not play again this season after Philippe Clement confirmed that he had suffered a knee injury in training.
While that has led some supporters and journalists to suggest the 31-year-old’s time at Ibrox could be up, BBC Sport pundit McCann insists that he will still be a part of Clement’s first-team squad come the start of next season.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (3 May, 3:50) he said: “I would expect so yeah. He’s missed the last couple of games obviously and Philippe Clement has been protective of him saying that he’s resting him.
“I think the first game he maybe gets away with that but you can see that it was probably a statement of protection given the fact that Balogun retains his place against St Mirren. It’s unfortunate for the boy and Rangers I might add that he’s picked up a ligament injury.”
Has Connor Goldson played his last game for Rangers after Philippe Clement update?
It has been widely accepted by pundits and fans alike that Goldson’s form has been nowhere near good enough in recent weeks. The Englishman has looked a shadow of the player that had been so formidable earlier this season.
With Leon Balogun and John Souttar in the backline, the entire Gers defence has looked more assured in and out of possession. That pairing still isn’t perfect, but they definitely instil more confidence than they did when Goldson was playing week in and week out.

A summer sale could make sense if the right offer was made, but it feels unlikely that anyone will be desperate to take the 31-year-old’s wages on come the end of the season. Perhaps the only switch that suits all parties would be a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Whether that will come to fruition or not remains to be seen, but most people in and around Ibrox seem to be confident that Goldson will not be going anywhere this season, with or without this latest injury.
