Rangers team news v Kilmarnock: Connor Goldson, Oscar Cortes and Danilo out for rest of season
Philippe Clement has confirmed that Rangers trio Connor Goldson, Oscar Cortes and Danilo will all not play again this season ahead of the clash with Kilmarnock.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference (3 May), the manager confirmed that Goldson had missed training after suffering a knee ligament injury during training earlier in the week.
Clement also confirmed that long-term absentees Danilo and Cortes also aren’t expected to return before the campaign concludes, in a major blow to the Ibrox club in their hunt for the title.
“Wednesday in training, Connor (Goldson) hurt his knee bad, he will be out for the rest of the season after a scan,” he said.
“It is a big blow, he has played 48 games this season, one of the leaders. He said to me, he wanted to be in the dressing room to support the boys.
“[Oscar] Cortes and Danilo will not return before the end of the season.”
Rangers dealt “big blow” ahead of Kilmarnock clash
Just as Rangers looked to be welcoming injured players back to contention for the business end of the season, this crazy injury curse has struck again.
Goldson has been a regular for years, barely missing any games, but he is now set to see a significant period on the sidelines, while Cortes and Danilo had both been hopeful of returning to action before the season ended.
Clement has been forced to find solutions to major injury problems all season since taking over from Michael Beale, and now he will have to do it again in the final five fixtures of the campaign.
Ultimately, however, nothing changes for the team. There are five games left in the league plus a cup final and if Rangers can win all six of their games then there is a phenomenal chance they will win the treble.
Whoever gets named in the starting lineup for those games will have to be totally motivated and if they’re not, then they are clearly at the wrong club.
In other Rangers news, the club are optimistic about completing an “unbelievable” transfer deal with a £20m sale mooted already.
