Rangers and Celtic told it is now or never to sign Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller

James McFadden has told Rangers it is now or never for them to sign Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller after his stunning breakthrough campaign.

The central midfielder has broken through at Fir Park this season and become a key member of the squad despite starting the season as a 16-year-old, and has been tipped for a bright future at the highest level.

But while speaking to Open Goal (2 May), former Motherwell legend McFadden believes if Rangers or Celtic are to add him to their squad at some point it has to be this summer as he could step beyond them with another full year of football under his belt.

“The fact you watch him and you forget, he is 17. He started the season at 16-years-old and you’re just looking at him thinking, ‘How can you do that?'” he said.

“Technically for me, he’s outstanding. His range of passing, touch, vision… but I think it’s his game intelligence. He can buy fouls, wee things that you don’t see an awful lot of. If the ball is coming, he’ll take the touch across the man. He knows what he’s doing before he gets it.

“His temperament is ridiculous. I see him when he does interviews and he says, ‘My dad won’t let me get carried away.’ He wouldn’t anyway. It’s just the way he’s always been. He’s so level-headed and just a brilliant player.

“There is talk that he will leave this summer, but I really hope that he stays another year. You look at how far he’s come this year, if he gets a full season next year… tremendous. Will Celtic and Rangers be looking at him? I think they will, but I think if they don’t go for him this year, they’ll not get him.”

Rangers should be the home for the best Scottish talent

When you look at the Scotland national team these days, it’s crazy to think that there are barely any players currently plying their trade at an Old Firm club and there are no starters coming from Ibrox.

The closest to having that position is John Souttar, but he is hardly established at Rangers too and having players who can step into the national setup should be something the club are targeting.

It helps the fans to connect with the players on the pitch that little bit more, but it should also be a source of pride for the club that the biggest club in the country is supplying the national team during one of their more successful phases in history.

Lennon Miller is undoubtedly going to be the future of Scottish football with the talent he has, and that is the sort of player that Rangers should be targeting.

If it really is now or never, then the squad will surely have an opening for him this summer and they could be planting the seeds for a future legend at Ibrox.
