Ben Davies may be given chance to save Rangers career as new Connor Goldson update emerges
Rangers still have a potential treble to play for between now and the end of the season, but attention is already beginning to turn to the summer transfer window.
The end of the season is expected to bring plenty of movement both in and out of Ibrox with Philippe Clement ready to put his own stamp on the squad that had been left in Glasgow by Michael Beale.
One man who has already been linked with the exit door in recent weeks has been Ben Davies, with the consensus from pundits and supporters alike being that the Englishman is finished under the Belgian manager.
Barry Ferguson has previously suggested that the former Liverpool man is “out of the picture” at Ibrox while Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack has gone as far as to say that Clement “doesn’t rate” the defender and therefore will move him on this summer.
However, that entire plan may have gone out of the window after a new update emerged surrounding the fitness of Connor Goldson ahead of the Light Blues’ showdown with Kilmarnock on Sunday (5 May).
Will Philippe Clement sell Rangers defender Ben Davies during the transfer window at Ibrox?
Clement confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Friday (3 May) that Goldson’s season has been brought to a premature end by a knee injury sustained in training which will rule him out in the coming weeks.
While Leon Balogun is the most obvious candidate to continue to feature alongside John Souttar, the 35-year-old has had his own injury problems over the course of the season and it would be naive to assume he could play week in and week out.
Should Clement need to rotate his backline, something that he has done already throughout the season, that could well open the door for Davies to force his way back into the starting XI and potentially save his career at Ibrox.

If Jack and Ferguson are correct and the 28-year-old is on borrowed time in a light blue shirt, the Gers boss may opt to call upon an academy option before restoring the Englishman to the starting XI.
But should he be handed a second chance, one or two good displays in the final moments of the campaign could change the course of Davies’ career.
Whether he gets that opportunity remains to be seen, but it feels more likely with Goldson out of the picture.
