Si Ferry speaks out on Ross McCausland after tough Rangers verdict at Ibrox

Rangers winger Ross McCausland must find the mentality to force his way back into Philippe Clement’s plans, according to Si Ferry.

The former Dundee midfielder insists that the youngster finds himself in a “tough” position, having been in and out of the Rangers side for much of this season.

McCausland was the subject of a long conversation on Open Goal, and Ferry wondered if the 20-year-old Northern Irish international could bounce back from judgement at Ibrox.

“McCausland, is he finding out what we’re talking about? He maybe did have a couple of bad games then you didn’t see him again for five or six,” he said.

“It’s tough, with the mentality you need to have to bounce back from that.”

Will Ross McCausland be forced into Rangers exit?

Rangers have seen McCausland make a real breakthrough this season after he made a solitary appearance in each of the previous two campaigns.

In 2023-24, the Antrim-born winger has made 34 appearances in all competitions, with 16 being starts, scoring his first two Rangers goals in the Europa League and Scottish Premiership respectively.

Ross McCausland has seen his breakthrough campaign for Rangers tail off somewhat.

The last of those goals came against Kilmarnock back in early January though, and McCausland has been in and out of the side ever side, featuring a mere 10 times and making just four starts.

He most recently came off the bench early in the second half for winger Fabio Silva against St Mirren on 28 April but was unable to have much of an effect on the game despite Rangers winning it 2-1 late on.

McCausland’s form for Rangers has, on the whole, been good in his first full season of senior football, but that may not be enough for him to become a permanent fixture in Clement’s side going forward.

In other Rangers news, a manager claims a player who has starred for him for two years is ready for an Ibrox move ahead of the summer transfer window.
