Rangers transfer news as Dion Sanderson stance emerges at Ibrox

Rangers still hold an interest in Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson, according to the Daily Record.

Record reporter Keith Jackson said the 24-year-old right-sided defender was a player liked by Philippe Clement’s predecessor Michael Beale but a move never materialised.

He added that Sanderson is still on the radar of those at Ibrox, though any move is likely dependent on whether Rangers win the Scottish Premiership and what European competition they will be in next season.

Will Rangers move for Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson?

As with a lot of things at Rangers right now, any transfers are dependent on quite a lot of factrs – not least whether they will have the big bucks of Champions League cash to splash on higher-profile targets.

On Sanderson specifically, it might also be dependent on what happens with captain James Tavernier. The skipper has been linked with a reunion with ex-Gers boss Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, though that deal is far from a foregone conclusion.

If Tavernier were to take the riches of the Saudi Pro League then Clement might already have a ready-made replacement in the versatile Dujon Sterling, who is by trade a full-back and is a player much-improved under Clement.

But it would leave a gap needing to be filled and that is where links to Sanderson might start to hold more weight. If Birmingham are relegated from the Championship then it might the 24-year-old also looks to take on a new challenge.

In other Rangers news, talks are taking place for a move for a Dutch-born forward.
