Rangers already have new Jack Butland at Ibrox as BBC Scotland footage emerges

With Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland rumoured to be seeking the exit door at Ibrox, his successor between the sticks could be closer than they think.

Rangers lifted the Scottish Youth Cup on Wednesday night, overcoming Aberdeen 2-1 at Hampden Park.

One of the standout performances on the pitch was from 18-year-old ‘keeper Mason Munn. The stopper pulled off an incredible save to keep the Gers in front late on, as shown on BBC Sport Scotland’s official X account on 1 May.

Butland has recently been tipped for a return to England after just one season north of the border [DHNet]. Having signed a four-year deal at Ibrox last summer, he would command a sizeable fee.

His displays have kept Rangers within touching distance of Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title. To lose the England international stopper would be a step back for the club.

At 31, Butland still has age on his side for a goalkeeper with the potential of several sterling seasons still to offer a prospective new employer.

He also brings undoubted experience at the highest level, with over 350 senior career appearances.

Who is Rangers starlet Mason Munn?

Munn is just 18 and has played regularly in the Rangers Academy side. His excellent promise is shown here as he helped secure his side silverware.

The Northern Ireland youth international has represented his nation up to the Under-17 level. He has been linked with English powerhouses such as Arsenal, who are thought to be tracking his progress [Football Insider].

The recent cup triumph will no doubt propel Munn further into the shop window, but it could turn out that he is the long-term answer to Rangers’ questions.

Munn made the move to Glasgow from Glentoran in 2022. With early signs of excellent shot-stopping, commanding nature and athleticism, he is set to embark on an exciting pathway to the Rangers first team on current form.
