Tam McManus drops Rangers transfer verdict on ‘excellent’ Owen Dodgson
Tam McManus believes Rangers “should be looking” at Dundee left-back Owen Dodgson, who is on loan from Premier League outfit Burnley.
Dodgson, 21, moved to Scotland in the January transfer window on loan, having spent the first half of the campaign at English League One side Barnsley.
The versatile defender has impressed McManus, who feels the young full-back has done enough to warrant interest from Ibrox and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer, he said: “I like the left-back, [Owen] Dodgson. He’s been excellent. I think Celtic and Rangers should be looking at him.
“The two games I’ve seen him, against both Celtic and Rangers, I thought he was really, really good.”
Could Owen Dodgson replace Borna Barisic at Rangers?
Veteran full-back Borna Barisic appears set to leave Rangers on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires, with Turkish side Trabzonspor reportedly interested.
The 31-year-old has lost his starting spot to Ridvan Yilmaz, 22, this season – though the Turkish defender’s injury issues have meant sufficient cover has been required in his absence, with Barisic and Dujon Sterling filling in.
As a result, Philippe Clement will be keen to recruit a player of sufficient quality to offer competition as well as depth in the likely event of Barisic’s departure at the end of the season.
Dodgson has flourished in Scotland in a way he did not at previous loan club Barnsley, making 13 appearances across all competitions since his mid-season arrival.

His versatility has particularly caught the eye, with the 21-year-old splitting his playing time between left-back, left wing-back and a left-sided central defender.
Given he already boasts Scottish top-flight experience – coupled with Burnley’s likely relegation from the Premier League – Dodgson could turn out to be a bargain.
