Rangers set for compensation after ‘Tricky’ new Ibrox update on Zeb Jacobs
Rangers are set to receive a compensation fee for Zeb Jacobs after his impending move to Feyenoord was confirmed this week, according to Dan Plumley.
Jacobs is the current Academy Director at Ibrox but will be leaving at the end of the season to join Eredivisie side Feyenoord, after turning down interest from Manchester City to take the role in the Netherlands.
Reports suggested that Jacobs had a notice period in his contract which meant that Rangers didn’t need to be informed of negotiations, but football finance expert Plumley has shared that there will still likely be a compensation fee in his contract to ensure the Glasgow club aren’t left empty handed.
“Usually that’s the way it plays out,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“Anyone that is released from a contract in managerial terms, you would expect compensation fees to be in place. It’s always tricky to find out the details of the cost of that.
“Clubs sometimes disclose them in their annual accounts officially, sometimes there’ll be things loosely titled ‘compensation fee’ but you don’t really know who it’s for, so you’re second-guessing a little bit.
“We’ll certainly be able to see that further down the line, but it’s just the reality of the picture at the minute and yeah, you’re looking at compensation fees being likely and then it’s what kind of fee can you agree based on what value is left on the contract and how desperate both parties are to make that deal happen.”
Rangers surely have replacements lined up
With news already being confirmed of Jacobs’ exit, it would be silly for the club not to already have lined up a replacement or at least started work on bringing someone in.
Jacobs’ role was to improve the pathway from the academy to the first-team at Ibrox and he helped that with the likes of Bailey Rice and Ross McCausland featuring this season.
But whoever comes in to replace him will need to continue that work and progress, while also looking to bring in the best talent and help develop players with the best coaches and staff.

Jacobs is very highly-rated, but the fact that Rangers will be entitled to compensation will be a silver lining for the club as they prepare for his exit.
But with a busy summer window ahead with the first-team picture, the quicker they can get this position filled the better for everyone involved.
