Robby McCrorie has to leave Rangers without assurances over Jack Butland transfer exit
Robby McCrorie has to leave Rangers unless he has assurances that he is going to be the starting goalkeeper, according to Derek Ferguson.
The 26-year-old has been stuck behind star number one Jack Butland all season, making a single appearance in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on 20 January, after previously being unable to get past Allan McGregor or even Jon McLaughlin.
Having made a total of just seven first-team appearances for the Light Blues despite being with the club since his youth days over a decade ago Ferguson insists that it has been too long and he has to be regular starter somewhere.
Butland, 31, is expected to be in demand for big money in the summer so he could potentially clear the way, so the pundit is clear that McCrorie has to be assured he will get the starting role or he must move on.
He exclusively told Ibrox News: “Robby’s got to go. He’s got to. If he isn’t going to be first choice, if he’s not got assurances, he’s got to get out there and get on with his career.
“He is a good keeper, he’s at Rangers for a reason. That’s because he is a good keeper. He’s been in the international set up.
“But it’s now time to go and play first-team football. Make your own mark. He’s played second fiddle far too long, he’s 26, he needs to get out there and play. It’s important for Robby to get first-team football.”

Does Jack Butland Rangers exit open the door?
McCrorie was given an audition as the Ibrox starter by Michael Beale to end last season and he performed fairly well with four wins and just one goal conceded.
But the former boss didn’t see fit to elevate him to number one and went out to bring in Butland from Crystal Palace in what has turned out to be the signing of the season.
With Philippe Clement linked to a target of his own in Arnaud Bodart [SudInfo, 10 April] should Butland depart this summer it looks like McCrorie is going to be in a similar predicament, and were he five years younger that might be enough but at his age it would be time to depart permanently.
In other Rangers news, a “great” Ibrox attacker is wanted for a permanent exit after a confirmed transfer update.
