Rangers update emerges on Leicester star Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of summer transfer window
Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s “wages are enormous” amid transfer rumours linking him with Rangers, according to Alan Nixon.
Philippe Clement is expected to add to his frontline during the summer transfer window at Ibrox, with the Light Blues currently incredibly reliant on Cyriel Dessers with both Danilo and Kemar Roofe repeatedly hampered by injuries.
Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland and Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovoski have been linked with a move to Glasgow, one supporter floated the idea of Foxes star Iheanacho, but Sun journalist Nixon appears to have poured hot water on that rumour.
Replying to a fan who asked on X (29 April) if there was any truth in the links, Nixon replied: “Wages are enormous.”
The journalist quickly followed up: “He’s on 0k a week from summer … but demands will be high.”
Will Rangers sign Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho in the transfer window?
It has been clear for some time now that Rangers and Clement could do with a new striker this summer. While Dessers has shown plenty of signs of improvement, the Nigerian isn’t the sort of consistent forward needed to win titles.
Iheanacho has had a slow season in the Championship as Leicester have lifted the title, only scoring five goals in 22 appearances. He has impressed in the Premier League previously, but it feels unlikely that the Gers would be willing to spend big money to bring him to Ibrox.
As Nixon suggests, the 27-year-old’s transfer demands will be high this summer and that could well rule the Gers out of the race if they do hold a genuine interest. Plenty of more wealthy clubs will be considering him as a potential option.
Hopefully, Clement will be able to sign a new number nine before the start of next season so that he can mount a serious challenge for the title next term. A consistent source of goals could be the difference between silverware and a second-place finish.
