Rangers loanee Jose Cifuentes’ transfer hopes dashed after Cruzeiro development

Jose Cifuentes’ hopes of securing a permanent transfer away from Rangers this summer have been dealt a new blow, according to The Rangers Review.

The news outlet reported on 30 April that, after Brazilian icon Ronaldo pulled his funding from Cruzeiro, where Cifuentes is on loan, the chances of a permanent deal look unlikely.

While the Brazilian club have an option to buy the Ecuadorian when his loan deal expires, the withdrawal of funds makes that possibility far less likely to come to fruition.

Jose Cifuentes transfer hopes dealt new blow at Rangers

Cifuentes endured a nightmare start to his career at Ibrox after arriving under Michael Beale last summer as he was one of several signings who failed to make their mark even after the arrival of Philippe Clement as the new boss.

This meant that when the opportunity for a January exit came up, he was able to sort out a move away, with interest from Turkey snubbed in favour of the move to Cruzeiro where an option to make the deal permanent was included.

Now, though, with Ronaldo’s backing no longer helping to fund the club, the chances of the Brazilian club being able to raise the money to complete the permanent transfer look more unlikely than ever as Cifuentes could return.

Their financial position had previously been described as difficult by one director who insisted they would look to do the best possible deal for Cifuentes and the club, but that situation has now been made even worse.
