Rangers expected to have multiple quality candidates ready to replace Zeb Jacobs exit

Derek Ferguson isn’t concerned about Rangers losing Academy Director Zeb Jacobs because he is confident there will be multiple qualified candidates waiting to step in.

Interest in the Belgian from Feyenoord and the Premier League emerged last week and it was quickly announced on Monday (29 April) that he would be departing to the Eredivisie side at the end of the current campaign.

Ferguson accepts that Jacobs, 29, is a “clever guy” who is “good at his job” but doesn’t believe the operation at Rangers will suffer greatly by his exit when he expects a waiting list of strong options to replace him already.

He told Ibrox News: “I don’t think it will be that much of a blow because I think there will be a lot of other good candidates waiting in the wings that are well-capable of doing that job.

“Listen, obviously he’s a clever guy and he’s good at his job, but I think there will be a good number of good candidates waiting to come in.

“I don’t think it will be much of a blow to be honest with you.”

Rangers academy job in demand?

For a Gers academy that hasn’t recently been producing the pipeline of first-team talent that would boost the club in the SPFL and the transfer market a key figure’s departure after just a year in the role was surely not part of the plan.

But if there is an immediate set of contingency options it would certainly help the club overcome the exit with minimal disruption, with a small compensation due at Ibrox from Feyenoord [The 4th Official, 29 April].

In other Rangers news, an “incredible” Gers star is owed a big debt by the club after he single-handedly kept the title race alive.
