Rangers striker Danilo teases injury return in image shared on social media

Rangers striker Danilo has dropped a new hint that a return to fitness could be close after sharing an image of his boots in the dressing room at Auchenhowie.

The Brazilian has been missing since he suffered a medial ligament injury and underwent surgery in January, but it now appears he may have made a return to training.

The most recent injury update from Philippe Clement detailed that Ridvan Yilmaz and Ryan Jack would return to training this week, but there was no mention of Danilo.

Taking to Instagram on 29 April, the Brazilian simply shared an image of himself with boots on in the dressing room with a simple caption of two emojis as he hinted at his recovery.

This news will come as a huge boost to Rangers and Clement given the extend of their recent injury crisis, with the striker’s return set to provide more options in the final third where the club has been hit hardest by knocks and blows.

Cyriel Dessers has been the first-choice striker at Ibrox in Danilo’s absence, and while he scored his 20th goal of the season in the 2-1 win against St Mirren, he has been widely criticised for his performances as the club’s main striker.

Danilo’s return will provide strong backup for the Nigerian, while handing Clement alternative options to rotate his side if things begin to get stale or he needs to change the profile of his main striker during a game.

After suffering his injury blow, Danilo vowed to make a strong return, although it was thought at the time that he would not return before the end of the season. He now appears to be ahead of time in his recovery.

In other Rangers news, Jack Butland has received high praise for his performance v St Mirren.
