Kris Boyd names Rangers pair in Team of the Week after win v St Mirren

Kris Boyd has named two Rangers players in his Scottish Premiership Team of the Week following the victory over St Mirren.

The Gers came out on top 2-1 at The SMiSA Stadium on Sunday (28 April) to keep up the pressure on Celtic, who defeated Dundee 2-1.

Cyriel Dessers scored the winner for the Gers, after James Bolton’s earlier own goal, and was one of those selected by Boyd.

The Sky Sports pundit also named goalkeeper Jack Butland in his best XI of the weekend for The Scottish Sun [29 April].

Cyriel Dessers the Rangers match-winner

Butland and Dessers both had good games on the whole and are deserving of their places in this side, which has Celtic’s James Forrest as the star man.

Dessers looked frustrated for large parts of the game, but like any good striker he proved the difference on the day with his headed winner – that is all that matters.

Butland, meanwhile, produced a couple of very good stops, including one to deny Bolton with the score locked at 1-1 at that stage.

It was ultimately a team effort, however, and the Light Blues deserve praise for getting the job done, even if it was far from straightforward.

Now that the dust has settled on another weekend in the Scottish top flight, there are five games remaining to hunt down Celtic.

With a corner now seemingly turned after back-to-back wins, let’s hope for a clean sweep of victories in the remainder of the campaign.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are expected to rival Celtic for a free-agent target this summer.
