Jack Butland sent message by former Manchester United star David de Gea after Rangers award

David de Gea has sent a message to Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland after he was named as the club’s Player of the Year.

Butland won the top individual accolade at Sunday’s (28 April) ceremony, fresh on the back of another strong display in the 2-1 win at St Mirren.

The 2023 summer signing was previously on the books of Manchester United, where he played second fiddle to De Gea last season.

In a post on his personal Instagram account [29 April], Butland thanked his team-mates and supporters for all their support since arriving.

And De Gea was among those to reply, posting a flames emoji and one of two hands raised.

Bringing in Butland on a free last summer was considered a good piece of business, but surely nobody expected him to be as good as he has been.

The England international, who should be part of his country’s Euro 2024 squad, has saved the Gers many a point this season with his saves.

Butland made a big call in departing Old Trafford last summer, knowing he was too good to be watching on from the substitutes’ bench.

Full credit to him as he has well and truly got his career back on track and is now arguably enjoying the best spell of his entire career.

The irony is that De Gea has been without a club since leaving Man United last summer, while replacement Andre Onana has not been great.

All Rangers fans care about, though, is that Butland is at Ibrox and hopefully here to stay for a number of years to come.

In other Rangers news, Rod Stewart has made an early prediction ahead of the upcoming Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.
