Todd Cantwell fails to win over Philippe Clement ahead of ‘massive’ Ibrox clear-out

Michael Gannon believes that Todd Cantwell will be given a chance to prove himself with Rangers as Philippe Clement prepares for a “revolution”.

After a run of poor form in the Scottish Premiership, the Gers need to bounce back quickly if they are to win the title.

Recently, there has been a selection of bad performances that have seen Clement’s side winless in their last three league games.

Should they fail to win the title, this could spark a mass clear-out at Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Now in a report for the Sunday Mail (28 April, page 71), Gannon has suggested Cantwell could be one player facing the exit door.

He said: “There is going to be a massive clearout in the summer but he still needs these players now. There is an opportunity for some to become heroes of this term and part of the revolution next season.

“Cantwell falls into that bracket. You get the feeling the lad hasn’t quite won the gaffer over just yet. There is time though. And there are a couple of games on the horizon where reputations are forged or ruined.”

Should Rangers sell Todd Cantwell?

Cantwell joined the Gers in January 2023 from Norwich and has gone on to make 59 appearances and score 12 goals [FotMob].

This season he has scored five and assisted four despite only starting 20 games and playing an additional six times as a substitute.

He has scored six in all competitions which sees him just two goals away from setting a personal record for goals in a season.

With that being said, it remains unclear whether he will remain at Ibrox past the summer transfer window.

The Englishman does rank among Rangers’ better players on the statistical front. He has an 84 per cent pass accuracy, 29 successful dribbles and even an 84 per cent tackle success rate.

These show off a player who gets on the ball and keeps the game ticking while not being afraid to make a tackle.

He hasn’t played very much given the talents that are available to Clement which could see him let go.

Depending on the fee available in the summer, he could prove to be worth keeping hold of as a useful squad option.
