Sky Sports pundit blown away by what ‘incredible’ Jack Butland did for Rangers in clash v St Mirren

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has blown Kenny Miller away with an “incredible” save in the Gers’ Scottish Premiership clash with St Mirren.

Philippe Clement’s side kept their slim title hopes alive with a 2-1 win on Sunday (28 April) with an own goal from James Botlon and another strike from Cyriel Dessers helping the Light Blues claim all three points.

However, the home side had more than enough chances to cause an upset and put an end to the Gers’ title hopes. The best opportunity fell to Bolton who was denied by Butland from close range much to the Sky Sports pundit’s surprise.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (28 April, 13:17) he said: “That is a save right out of the top drawer. It’s just a free-kick floated to the back but O’Hara gets a header back on it and it’s James Bolton.

“Jack Butland’s going the other way, how he keeps that out is absolutely incredible. That’s full force volley and Jack Butland is moving across his goal but he just throws his right hand up and gets it up and over the bar.

“That is an incredible save to keep Rangers level in this game.”

Will Jack Butland leave Rangers in the summer transfer window after heroics against St Mirren?

While several supporters have been critical of most of Michael Beale’s summer signings at Ibrox, Butland has been an undisputed success since arriving in Glasgow as the Englishman continues to go from strength to strength.

The former Three Lions international has consistently kept Clement’s side in games with his match-winning performances between the posts. Without him, Rangers wouldn’t even be close to Celtic in the title race.

His save against St Mirren on Sunday was one of his best as he made up a massive amount of ground before sticking out a massive hand to palm the ball over the bar. Few players in the world would have kept that effort out.

Hopefully, Clement and his recruitment team will be able to find a way to keep him at Ibrox beyond the summer transfer window. Premier League sides will be taking note of his recent performances and it could be hard to turn down a big-money move.
