Rangers must send Fabio Silva back to Wolves tonight after ’embarrassing’ scenes v St Mirren

Rangers kept their slim Scottish Premiership hopes alive with a win over St Mirren, but the clash was far from comfortable for Philippe Clement’s side.

The Gers claimed all three points on Sunday (28 April) with an own goal from James Bolton and a second-half winner from Cyriel Dessers proving the difference between the two sides in a game that won’t be remembered as a classic.

While the mood around Ibrox will be positive now that the Light Blues have got back to winning ways in the Premiership, Fabio Silva was once again at the centre of controversy as he was accused of diving by Steven Thompson.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland (28 April, 13:01) he said: “He’s got previous for it, it’s a booking, it’s a dive. He doesn’t need to do it. It’s embarrassing.”

Will Rangers sign Fabio Silva permanently from Wolves in the summer transfer window?

This incident is the latest in a long line of controversies in which the Wolves loanee has played a part during his short tenure at Ibrox and while it isn’t the worst it could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

In the Gers’ win over Hearts at Hampden Park, Silva was slammed by pundits and supporters alike for his collapse in the penalty under no pressure as he had an all-but-empty net to tap into from close range.

When the Light Blues drew with Celtic at Ibrox earlier this season, Chris Sutton slammed the Wolves loanee and labelled him a cheat for a dive that eventually saw a penalty awarded after a lengthy VAR check.

The forward has also been spotted throwing a bit of a tantrum when substituted in recent weeks and it becoming increasingly clear that Rangers won’t be in a rush to sign him permanently this summer.

Ross McCausland has looked brighter when he has come off of the bench in recent weeks while the likes of Rabbi Matondo and Abdallah Sima both sit ahead of the Wolves loanee when fit and available.

Fabio Silva joined Rangers on loan from Wolves in January.

If Philippe Clement isn’t interested in signing Silva permanently and has grown as frustrated with his performances as the fanbase has, it could be best for all parties if this loan switch was cut short prematurely.

Wolves are lacking attacking depth and the Gers could do without having his wages on the books. Maybe Clement should send the young forward back to Molineux sooner rather than later.
