Rangers directors blasted over broken Ibrox promise to fans – ‘Rubbish’
Gary Keown has insisted the Rangers fans have been fed “rubbish” by owners and directors of the Ibrox club as they continue to break promises to the supporters.
This has come amid criticism of Ibrox stars Cyriel Dessers and Mohamed Diomande, with Keown stating that Rangers fans will be tired of the talk and promises of trophies and success.
He went on to explain that those promises are repeatedly broken by the club while the owners have failed to build a self-sustaining model of buying and selling players for a profit to keep the club going.
Writing in his column for the Mail on Sunday [27 April, page 100], Keown shared: “Respective boards and directors have fed them some amount of rubbish over the years when they should have built a system that can sell players for profit and wash its own face.
“Right now, the core of the team looks like it is sliding back into its default position. Failing to turn up, letting the bottle crash, being consumed by tension and fear when the games that really, really matter come around.”
Gary Keown slams Rangers in new “rubbish” verdict
Rangers’ board deserve criticism for the direction the club has been heading in. Changes may have been made with regard to the stricture at the club, and some will say better late than never, but realistically, it’s too little too late.
The criticism of Dessers and Diomande comes after the players made comments about winning the title amid the race with Celtic, despite, as Keown details, continuous broken promises from those at the top of the club when it comes to winning trophies.
However, it should be noted that progress has been made towards the point of selling players for profit, with the arrival of Nils Koppen in January and the switch in strategy towards targeting and signing younger talent to develop and sell for a profit.

Diomande, despite Keown’s criticism, has proved an example of that policy as he has impressed since arriving in January for a £4.5million fee which those at Ibrox hope can prove cheap in comparison to his eventual sale.
Fans at Ibrox will hope that the continued broken promises may finally be over with some ambition injected back into the club, but the players will have to prove it.
