Kris Boyd rages at ‘absolute disgrace’ after incident in Rangers win v St Mirren

Kris Boyd has been left in a rage live on Sky Sports following a “terrible” decision to book Rangers keeper Jack Butland in the Gers’ clash with St Mirren.

Philippe Clement’s side got back to winning ways in the Premiership with a 2-1 win on Sunday (28 April) thanks to a first-half own goal from James Bolton before Cyriel Dessers secured the three points with a header.

Butland had to be at his best to deny a couple of excellent chances for the home side, but the Englishman was booked for a coming together with Toyosi Olusanya which Boyd labelled an “absolute disgrace”.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (28 April, 14:31) he said: “I must say as well the decision after that to book him was an absolute disgrace. He’s came and cleared it, Olusanya has run into him and Jack Butland has been booked for that?

“I wouldn’t have liked to see it if that ball had ended up in the back of the net from that free-kick because that was a terrible decision, to be honest.”

Will Jack Butland stay at Rangers during the summer transfer window?

Butland couldn’t have had a much better afternoon between the posts for the Gers than he did against St Mirren as the England international pulled off a number of excellent saves to deny the home side repeatedly.

However, the Gers stopper went into the book for what was ultimately nothing more than a coming together. Butland won the ball cleanly and just happened to get the man afterwards which wasn’t his fault whatsoever.

For him to be punished for that just shows how poor officials north of the border have been so far this season. This isn’t the first poor call Rangers have been hit by and it almost certainly won’t be the last before the end of the season.

Luckily, it didn’t cost Clement’s side on Sunday and they’ll be hoping it stays that way. The chances of beating Celtic to the title are slim but with some good performances and a bit of luck, they could finish top of the table.
