John Lundstram signs three-year contract as Rangers exit decision made

Rangers midfielder John Lundstram has signed a three-year contract with Trabzonspor to complete his Ibrox exit, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

The Sports Digitale journalist reported via X on Sunday (28 April) that the English midfielder has signed a long-term contract with the Turkish side ahead of the expiry of his contract at Ibrox come the end of the season.

Light Blues teammate Borna Barisic has also agreed to leave Glasgow at the end of the season and has reportedly agreed an initial one-year deal with Trabzonspor with the option for an additional season in the future.

Writing on X, Sabuncuoglu said: “Trabzonspor signed a 3-year contract with John Lundstram and a 2+1-year contract with Borna Barisic from Rangers.”

John Lundstram and Borna Barisic to leave Rangers for Trabzonspor in the summer transfer window

It has appeared for some time now that Barisic is destined to leave Ibrox come the end of the season. The Croatian international hasn’t been a regular under Philippe Clement this term and has struggled for consistency when picked.

However, Lundstram has shown that when he is at his best, he is more than capable of being one of the Gers’ best players. Unfortunately, his form has dipped at the wrong time and that could stop him from earning a new contract in Glasgow.

Clement has repeatedly insisted that he would be keen to keep the veteran midfielder beyond the end of the season and reports have suggested negotiations have been held, but it doesn’t appear as though an agreement has been reached.

The only bright side from a Gers’ perspective is the fact that they will save a decent amount of money on wages that can be invested during the summer. Hopefully, Clement will be able to put his own personal stamp on the squad come the end of the season.
