Abdallah Sima Rangers career could be over after what Philippe Clement said

Abdallah Sima’s Rangers career could be over after Philippe Clement confirmed he is set to miss the next few weeks with an injury.

The Senegal international has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, a tally only bettered by Cyriel Dessers and captain James Tavernier, and recently returned from a two-month absence due to injury.

He scored against Celtic to help the team earn a 3-3 draw earlier this month, and his performances have seen the club explore the chances of making his loan move from Brighton permanent if they are able to find an acceptable agreement with the Premier League side.

Clement will have been hoping to have the winger available for the final games of the season, with the Ibrox club chasing Celtic in the title race once again after a recent poor run of results saw them give up top spot in the table.

However the manager confirmed during his pre-game press conference ahead of the clash with St Mirren that Sima would miss the next “couple of weeks” with injury.

The final game of the SPFL season is currently due to be played on Saturday May 18th, just three weeks way, while the Scottish Cup final with Celtic is scheduled for one week later on Saturday May 25th.

In an ideal world he would be fit to feature in those games, but with the way injuries have gripped Ibrox this season there is no guarantee of a return.

Brighton won’t sell Abdallah Sima to Rangers on the cheap

That means there is every possibility that the 22-year-old has featured for the final time this season, and potentially the final time in a Rangers shirt.

Brighton spent around £7m to sign Sima from Slavia Prague in 2021 and while he hasn’t made a first-team appearance for the Seagulls in his career, they won’t be looking to sell him on the cheap.

Sima still has two years remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium and they will be under no pressure to sell for a cut-price, leaving Rangers with a huge decision to make when it comes to splashing a large chunk of their budget for the summer.

If they do opt to sign him permanently then other areas of the squad that need strengthening could suffer as a result, but not re-signing him means the squad immediately goes backwards.

It’s a big question for those in charge to answer, but there is a very real chance that Sima has played his final game for Rangers.

In other Rangers news, the door has been opened for a major departure from Ibrox this summer after a rule change.
