John Lundstram and Borna Barisic to leave Rangers as new club adds both to their squad

Trabzonspor have now added Rangers duo Borna Barisic and John Lundstram to their squad, according to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu.

The Sports Digitale journalist reported via Twitter on 26 April that the two Light Blues players will be playing for the Turkish side after leaving Ibrox.

Lundstram, 30, and Barisic, 31, are both out of contract in Glasgow at the end of the season and while manager Philippe Clement has indicated he expected the midfielder would stay it appears he won’t be getting what he wants.

Sabuncuoğlu wrote, translated to English: “Trabzonspor added John Lundstram and Borna Barisic from Rangers to its squad.”

Double-Rangers exit to disappoint Philippe Clement?

Barisic’s exit has looked increasingly certain for some time, with only squad regulations at Trabzonspor seemingly delaying the deal.

Having lost his place to Ridvan Yilmaz and struggled when called into relief action after the Turk’s most recent injury it likely makes sense all round for the Croatian veteran to move on this summer.

Lundstram’s status is more debatable as the Englishman had been a key regular for Clement throughout the Belgian’s time at Ibrox and looked to have regained his best form for the club.

But his performances dropped off a cliff along with some others as Rangers ceded the title initiative to Celtic to bring his future back into question.

And with no announcement of a new deal despite Clement being extremely forthright in his expectation that one would be arriving it suggested there may be an issue in talks behind the scenes.

The Ger boss was still publicly expressing his hope that the ex-Sheffield United man would stay earlier on Friday [Football Scotland, 26 April], but his comments did appear to have rowed back some way from his stance a month ago, and it looks like the reason why is now obvious.

In other Rangers news, a key behind the scenes figure is on the brink of leaving the Light Blues as well and they can’t stop him from going.
