Gabriel Agbonlahor doubles down on Rangers v Celtic with Liverpool verdict made
Gabby Agbonlahor has doubled down on his list as he names the Rangers v Celtic derby the biggest in Britain with Liverpool v Manchester United in fourth.
The former Aston Villa striker was asked to name his top five derbies in the United Kingdom and the Old Firm derby sealed top spot.
Perhaps surprisingly, he included West Ham v Millwall at fourth without any mention of Everton v Liverpool while Chelsea v Tottenham came in fifth.
Via Twitter, he wrote: “Any lies?”
Rangers v Celtic is undoubtedly Britain’s best derby
Agbonlahor’s decision to rank Rangers v Celtic as the top British derby is spot on, considering the intense rivalry, passion and historical significance of the Old Firm.
The derby showcases the most bruising and aggressive football, with a deep-rooted rivalry that has stood the test of time.
It’s more than a football rivalry as it’s a cultural event showcasing the heart, soul and undying loyalty to their respective clubs, making the atmosphere electric and unmatched anywhere else in the sporting world.
However, placing West Ham v Millwall fourth while Everton v Liverpool, a more prominent and globally recognised derby, is a bit weird.
The Merseyside Derby is known for its intense atmosphere and the longstanding rivalry between the two clubs
The choice to place West Ham v Millwall above the Merseyside Derby could be attributed to the historical animosity and unique tensions between the two London clubs, but it overlooks the global appeal and competitive nature of the Liverpool-Everton rivalry.
