Rangers chief Zeb Jacobs to quit Ibrox for Feyenoord, notice period to be served

Zeb Jacobs is set to quit his post as Academy Director at Rangers to join Feyenoord, despite an approach from Manchester City according to 1908.nl.

Writing on their website (25 April), the reliable Dutch news outlet report that the Ibrox man has decided to move to the Netherlands to replace Rini Coolen in the Eredivisie as their new head of youth training.

Manchester City had also made an approach to take him away from Rangers, with a clause in his contract allowing him to just give one month’s notice, but Feyenoord have won the race to appoint him after entering negotiations “with more conviction and a better plan”.

Major blow for Rangers ahead of the summer

Rangers will not have been planning to lose such a key member of their staff behind the scenes just before the summer window, and Philippe Clement surely won’t be happy about it.

The whole point of Jacobs joining Rangers in 2022 was to help improve the pathway from the academy to the first-team, and already the likes of Bailey Rice, Ross McCausland and Zak Lovelace have made first-team appearances in that time.

But for him to move on now suggests that he doesn’t see his work being rewarded properly and there is a better opportunity for him elsewhere.

Jacobs is incredibly highly-rated and it will be seen as a massive blow ahead of the summer that he is set to leave, with the club not even entitled to any compensation either.

It’s just one more thing the club now have to add to their to-do list in what will be a busy period, and now they have to ensure he is replaced adequately.
