talkSPORT pundit issues admission on Rangers relegation and Celtic fans reaction

Ally McCoist has issued an admission Rangers getting relegated and how it was not the best thing for Celtic fans.

The former Gers player and manager says that the Old Firm games are special and the Hoops fans will have missed their cross-town rivals.

As things stand, Celtic are on course to lift the SPFL title again as Philippe Clement’s side have been inconsistent in recent weeks.

McCoist told talkSPORT, as quoted by Football Scotland (23 April): “The games against each other are what we all generally live for. I was at the 3-3 game (at Ibrox), tremendous. When Rangers went down to the third division, I don’t care what anybody says, you missed us. You missed the Old Firm games, because there’s something special about them.”

Rangers v Celtic is what makes Scottish football so much fun to watch

McCoist’s comments about not wanting Celtic to be relegated reflect a sentiment shared by many football fans – the importance of rivalries and the competitive spirit they bring to the game.

For the neutral observer, the Old Firm rivalry between Rangers and Celtic is a spectacle that adds an extra layer of excitement and drama to Scottish football.

The intense competition between the two Glasgow giants not only makes the Scottish Premiership more engaging but also raises the profile of the league on a global scale.

For fans of both clubs, the rivalry is at the core of their footballing identity.

The Old Firm matches are more heated than the other derbies in the United Kingdom and there’s been a ban on away fans as well over the past few years.

Policing costs skyrocket during the game and the intensity can be seen among the players on the field of play as well.
