Rangers hero claims he would make Cyriel Dessers ‘A lot better’ if they played together
Kenny Miller believes he would make Cyriel Dessers “a lot better” if they played together in the current Rangers team.
Dessers has come under criticism for his performances this season, but has managed 19 goals so far this season to be the team’s second top scorer behind James Tavernier.
But despite that some have claimed that the club need to improve on him during the summer window, and while speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (24 April) Miller admitted he feels he could make him a better player.
“There’s one thing for sure, I would make him a lot better,” he said. “I think there’s not many playing with front twos now, in terms of two out and out strikers.
“I believe I could make a partnership alongside Cyriel Dessers. Listen, I would love to play in the Rangers team, I really would. With the way the team is playing now, with the 4-3-3, if you’ve got the right players round about you, the right supporting players from midfield, you’re still going to get a lot of goals.
“I believe I could have made a partnership with him. He’s not scoring anywhere near as much as the big man [Kris Boyd].
“I would be the clever one, just floating about and making things happen. He could be the target man.”
Do Rangers need to replace Cyriel Dessers?
The striker position at Ibrox has been a puzzle to solve in recent years with Alfredo Morelos struggling to find his best form before leaving, while Antonio Colak, Dessers, Kemar Roofe and Sam Lammers have all had their own struggles.
But while Colak and Lammers were moved on quickly after arriving, with Roofe looking likely to follow them out of the door when his contract expires this summer, Dessers have proven to be a stubborn and consistent option.
Is he clinical? Absolutely not even in his wildest dreams. But he is a willing runner at all times, links well with his midfield and has popped up with some big goals too.
Replacing him is certainly a position where the club could look to improve in the summer window, and Philippe Clement will know that too.
However, if it’s going to take a large chunk of the budget and other areas need attending to more, then Dessers has proven he is capable of carrying the load if necessary.
In other Rangers news, the club have set out their intentions to make one loan signing permanent this summer.
