John Hartson destroys ’embarrassing’ Fabio Silva live on air after ‘ridiculous’ Rangers incident

Rangers forward Fabio Silva has been destroyed live on air by John Hartson for an “embarrassing” incident in the Gers’ win over Hearts.

Philippe Clement’s side booked their place in the Scottish Cup final with an impressive 2-0 win at Hampden Park on Sunday (21 April) with a brace from Cyriel Dessers proving to be the difference between the two sides.

The Nigerian selflessly gave up another goalscoring chance when he laid off the ball to Silva in Hearts’ penalty area, before the Wolves loanee fell in a heap to the ground, much to the frustration of Hartson who labelled his fall “ridiculous”.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (23 April, 17:16) he said: “It almost looked as though he had run past the ball. It was slightly behind him and because he couldn’t get a clear shot on goal it looked as though he went over.

“But it was really strange because there was nobody near him. It wasn’t as if he had a chance to get a penalty because he almost tripped over his own foot.

“It’s embarrassing isn’t it, even his own players have to have a word with him. After the Celtic game, it was like banging on the floor and it is just absolutely ridiculous. Everybody in the ground is thinking what are you doing?

“You’re embarrassing yourself and he does it again the following week.”

Celtic hero John Hartson slams Rangers loanee Fabio Silva for incident in Hampden Park win over Hearts

While Silva’s fall in the win at Hampden has been the laughingstock of Scottish football over the last few days, it does seem as though Hartson has got a bit too carried away in his anger when discussing this incident.

While the incident itself was comical, there is very little to suggest that Silva was genuinely looking to try and win a penalty. Instead, it just seemed as though the Wolves loanee got himself in a tangle inside of the box.

Hartson is completely within his rights to criticise the Portuguese forward for his actions in the Old Firm showdown at Ibrox earlier this season where he repeatedly went to ground too easily, but this scenario is different.

Hopefully, Silva will pick himself up and brush himself down ahead of the run-in in the Scottish Premiership. The Gers need him to find his shooting boots if they want to beat Celtic to the title this season.
