Connor Goldson left with few games to save Rangers career with rebuild on the cards
Connor Goldson’s performances of late have been far from the standards expected at Rangers and that could result in him leaving the club.
Philippe Clement took over the reins mid-season and quickly made Gers title favourites and even league leaders.
However, in recent weeks, their form has taken a downward turn and the English centre-back has come under scrutiny for his lapses and with six games left this season, he may not have longer to prove his worth.
Derek Ferguson recently savaged the Rangers defender
Derek Ferguson did not mince his words when he spoke about the 31-year-old after the 0-0 draw v Dundee.
He told Open Goal podcast: “I just think that Goldson looks like an old man at this minute. And I hate saying that.
“It’s a horrible thing seeing that last night (Wednesday against Dundee), did you see at the end of the game when Goldson, the ball’s played in behind him and he turns to get after it?
“Did you see it? He wasn’t under any pressure. It was just a ball coming over his head and he turned under no real pressure and he couldn’t move. It’s a shame.”
Goldson’s performances at the club have been below par for a considerable period, with his recent displays attracting criticism.
The Englishman’s form has been a point of concern, especially as Rangers’ form has dipped in recent weeks.
Connor Goldson’s Rangers contract runs out in 2026
Clement has even dropped Goldson from the semi-final against Hearts, indicating a lack of faith in the defender’s abilities at this critical juncture.
The Belgian’s decision to bench Goldson for a crucial match underscores the growing dissatisfaction with the player’s performance.
Even though he has a contract until 2026, Goldson’s position at Ibrox is under threat, particularly if Clement decides he is not the first choice moving forward and the manager has to be ruthless.

Despite his recent form, it is plausible that Goldson may attract interest from English Championship clubs in the summer transfer window and a good offer could tempt the Glasgow outfit to sell him.
In other Rangers news, Heart and Hand have issued a verdict on James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and John Lundstram departing Ibrox this summer.
