Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil wowed by Rangers v Celtic fact ahead of Scottish Cup final
Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil were left stunned after learning that Rangers have not faced Celtic in a Scottish Cup final for 22 years.
The Gers swept aside Hearts in the semi-final at Hampden Park on Sunday 21 April, while the Hoops edged past Aberdeen on penalties in their tie to set up a clash in the Scottish Cup final on 25 May.
Celtic are the current holders of the Scottish Cup title, though Philippe Clement will be keen to add to the silverware at Ibrox, having already lifted the League Cup in December.
After being told that the Old Firm rivals have not faced each other in the final for 22 years, McCoist replied live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (24 April, 9:00am): “That’s absolutely incredible; that is absolutely unbelievable. 22 years?”
Brazil added: “I know… Amazing. I’m looking forward to the big one at Parkhead.”
Rangers preparing for two ‘cup finals’ against Celtic
Rangers facing Celtic at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final is just one of two important fixtures against their Old Firm rivals remaining this season.
The Gers have the opportunity to lift a second piece of silverware under Clement’s reign already, having beaten Aberdeen 1-0 in the League Cup final.
However, the Scottish Premiership title is the biggest target at Ibrox this season, having closed a significant gap on Celtic at the top of the league table since the Belgian’s appointment in October, even getting to top of the pile at one stage.
Despite major slip-ups in a 3-2 defeat to Ross County and a 0-0 draw with Dundee, Rangers are just three points behind their rivals and could lift just their second league title in the last decade.

To pip Celtic to the Scottish Premiership, Clement’s side must do something they have been unable to achieve yet this season – defeat the Hoops.
The side have the chance to rectify that after two losses and a 3-3 draw at Ibrox earlier this month, where Rabbi Matondo saved a point with a sensational last-ditch effort.
