Andy Halliday baffled by ‘mental’ Fabio Silva incident in Rangers Hampden win v Hearts
Rangers forward Fabio Silva has been slammed by Andy Halliday for a “mental” incident in the Light Blues’ Scottish Cup win over Hearts.
A brace from Cyriel Dessers helped Philippe Clement’s side book their place in the Scottish Cup final with a 2-0 win at Hampden Park on Sunday (21 April), but the Gers could have progressed much more comfortably.
While the Nigerian forward himself missed a couple of reasonable chances in front of goal, the best opportunity fell to Wolves loanee Silva who mishit his shot and ended up in a heap on the floor, much to the frustration of Halliday.
Speaking on The Open Goal YouTube channel (23 April, 1:20:00) he said: “Fabio Silva came on and what is he doing? What is he doing for that one? He falls down. That was mental wasn’t it?”
Will Rangers sign Fabio Silva permanently from Wolves after disaster v Hearts?
Silva has enjoyed an incredibly mixed time at Ibrox so far. While he has scored a handful of reasonable goals and impressed in flashes, for the most part, the Wolves loanee has looked off of the pace and not good enough to start week in and week out.
His miss against Hearts and Hampden was nothing short of comical. It defies belief that a striker who has cost so much in the past could make such a mess of what is potentially the easiest chance he will have this season.

Rightly, the Portuguese forward has been slammed by supporters and pundits alike for his miss, along with a couple of questionable dives in recent games. He hasn’t been in the headlines for the right reasons in recent weeks.
Hopefully, Silva will find his shooting boots and finish the campaign in better goalscoring form than he has managed in recent weeks.
Even with a strong finish to the season, it is hard to see how Rangers justify paying the money required to sign him permanently, even though some star men are sidelined.
