Rangers: BBC Sport pundit blown away by what Jack Butland did in win v Hearts

BBC Sport pundit John Robertson was amazed by an “outstanding” save made by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland against Hearts.

Butland denied Hearts defender Frankie Kent from point-blank range during the first half of the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

That intervention came at an important part of the game as the Gers were only one goal to the good, before going on to seal a 2-0 victory.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland [21 April, 3:28pm], former Hearts striker Robertson said: “It’s hard to say if it’s a miss or a brilliant save.

“He’s probably offside but Butland isn’t to know that. Outstanding save.”

Jack Butland once again impresses for Rangers

Butland did not have a massive amount to do against Hearts at Hampden, but this is the sign of a top-class goalkeeper.

The England international was there when he was needed. Had that goal gone in – and stood – it would have made for a different game.

As it is, the Light Blues saw out the victory to set up an enticing Scottish Cup final with Celtic next month.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has turned things around at Rangers

Butland has produced a number of incredible moments for Rangers since joining in the summer, this being the latest.

It also goes to show that Rangers simply need to learn to take more control of games, with Hearts pushing hard around the point of this save.

Philippe Clement will no doubt need his undisputed number one on top form for that showdown with Celtic, which really will be one for the ages.
