Rangers: Gordon Dalziel makes Lawrence Shankland transfer admission after what he’s seen
Gordon Dalziel says Rangers could do with a player such as Hearts gem Lawrence Shankland after what he has seen from Cyriel Dessers.
Shankland was strongly linked with a switch to Ibrox in the January transfer window, but the speculation ultimately came to little.
The Scotland international has 21 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season, compared to 13 goals for Dessers in two games fewer.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, as shared on X [21 April], Dalziel said: “When you look at Dessers, you’d fancy someone like Shankland to score.
“Look at [the Dundee game]. If Shankland goes through he’s a natural goalscorer. They lack that.”
Is Lawrence Shankland staying at Hearts?
There are not many Rangers supporters out there – if any – who were not desperate for the club to sign Shankland around the turn of the year.
The 28-year-old is a proven scorer in this league and has showed no signs of letting up in the three months or so since the window closed.
In fairness, Dessers was in very good form around the same time. Whether that was down to the Shankland speculation is anyone’s guess.
However, since netting a double against Hearts on 24 February, Dessers has just one goal and one assist in nine matches.
That has played a massive part in the Gers’ drop off in form, which could prove decisive come the end of the campaign.
Dessers has not been as bad as many would have you believe, but if Shankland is there to be taken in the summer, it is a deal that makes sense.
It seems pretty clear that the Scotsman would be open to a move away from Hearts, and now is the perfect time to pounce.
In other Rangers news, the Gers could have an advantage over Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title battle.
