Rangers: Sky Sports pundit moots ‘absolutely disastrous’ scenario to unfold at Ibrox

It would prove to be an “absolutely disastrous” week for Rangers if they lose to Hearts on Sunday (21 April), according to Kenny Miller.

Writing on the Daily Record website on Sunday, the Sky Sports pundit noted how worrying it was to see that there was no reaction from the Gers players to the Ross County defeat in their 0-0 draw against Dundee.

He added that there needs to be one in the Scottish Cup clash against the Jambos on the back of the “incredible” turnaround in fortunes at Ibrox, with the Light Blues struggling for form at precisely the wrong time.

“There are five games left in the Premiership title race and, contrary to popular belief, it’s not actually over yet,” said Miller. “It will be tough unless Rangers can step up and prove everyone wrong, prove they do have the hunger to get over the line.

“I don’t throw around words like those easily but those were the things in my mind watching the 0-0 draw at Dens Park on Wednesday night. That was the time to produce a response to the Ross County defeat – and the most worrying thing was there was no reaction.

“There needs to be one now because even though it’s the Scottish Cup this weekend, defeat to Hearts this afternoon would turn a very bad few days into an absolutely disastrous week. It has been an incredible turnaround of late.”

Rangers must respond against Hearts

There are no two ways about it, Rangers simply have to beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup as they look to end a miserable week on a high.

The Gers have been in disappointing form of late, having won just two of their past eight matches, which has seen them lose their grip on top spot in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Philippe Clement will in some ways welcome the break from league action, but he will know the importance of booking their place in the final at Hampden.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement shouldn’t be blamed for his players’ poor pre-season performances

While the Light Blues have convincingly seen off the Jambos already this season, the Edinburgh club have proven to be a match for anyone on their day.

It’s not just about picking up a result and making it through to the final against Celtic, it’s also about putting in a performance to suggest they can – and will – claim more silverware this season.
