Jack Butland ‘amazing’ in Rangers victory over Hearts amid links to transfer exit
Jack Butland was “amazing” in his performance for Rangers as he kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory over Hearts, according to Heart & Hand.
David Edgar, the man behind the Gers podcast, reacted via Twitter on 21 April after the Light Blues keeper made a vital late save from Yaturo Oda to preserve the result in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
The 31-year-old had been short of his best as the team’s form fell off a cliff in recent weeks, but he was excellent in the crucial victory at Hampden Park.
Edgar wrote: “I may have mentioned this but Jack Butland is amazing.”
Can Rangers keep hold of ex-Crystal Palace keeper?
Butland’s outstanding performances under Michael Beale and Philippe Clement have put him back in the England frame and got him voted into the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.
But it has also seen him linked to a big money move away from Ibrox after just one season, having already been subject of a bid from Nottingham Forest in January.
He has been tipped to command a fee in excess of £20million if he does leave, and after he rejected the chance to move to the City Ground midseason [Scottish Sun, 25 February] it has recently been reported that he could be set to leave in the summer [SudInfo Sports, 10 April].
A sharp stop from Alan Forrest in the first half after a sloppy mistake by John Lundstram, and a point-blank stop from a potentially-offside Frankie Kent soon after, coupled with the late save from Oda, demonstrated Butland’s enduring importance to Clement’s side.
If there are to be any more trophies won this season he will have contributed hugely to either, and it would clearly leave a big gap to fill if he goes.
However, if the profit is a major one it might be something the club can’t afford to refuse, but for the next month he has an important job to do for the Light Blues.
In other Rangers news, 15 players could now be cleared out of Ibrox this summer by the manager.
