Rangers transfer news: Borna Barisic exit on horizon as club counts down to signing
Trabzonspor are now “counting down” to when they will add Borna Barisic to their squad from Rangers, Sabah reports.
According to Yunus Emre Sel for the outlet’s website (19 April) the Croatian’s exit to the Turkish side remains on the cards, having most recently himself reported that the expected move had been complicated by squad rules set to change for next season.
But as Trabzonspor attempt to sign a second exit-bound Light Blues player in John Lundstram that move would be in addition to Barisic, not instead of.
Barisic’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current campaign, and despite some initial indications from Philippe Clement earlier this season of an attempt to keep the 31-year-old at Ibrox [Football Scotland, 3 November] an exit now looks odds-on.
Rangers exit a matter of time for Philippe Clement back-up
There doesn’t look to have been much in the way of action at Ibrox towards keeping Barisic in the picture past the end of the season and Trabzonspor have made a big play early.
It is taking longer than might have been expected but all indications are that the plan is for him to end up there.
An announcement may be delayed until the conclusion of the season either way but it would be a surprise if the deal didn’t go through, and an even bigger one if he was still in Glasgow for next term.
Left-back is once again proving to be an issue at Rangers, with Ridvan Yilmaz’s elongating injury absence contributing to a dramatic dip in form across the board just as the Turkish international had well established himself as first choice.

Jefte had been due to arrive in January, and was supposed to be subject to a verbal agreement to sign in the summer but now even that has been called into question.
In the mean time the man for every occasion, Dujon Sterling, has filled in for Yilmaz after Barisic blew his opportunity in defeat at Ross County, but the fact that the ex-Chelsea player appears to be needed in midfield is making that an issue as well.
So, as usual, there are numerous questions about the future of the position, but one of the answers looks set to be a Barisic departure to the Turkish Super Lig.
