Rangers: Derek Ferguson savages Connor Goldson after what he did recently

Derek Ferguson has slammed Rangers defender Connor Goldson for what he saw him do in the 0-0 draw against Dundee on 17 April.

The English centre-back made an error at the end of the game and it did not prove costly but highlighted his vulnerabilities.

Goldson will be turning 32 later this year and Ferguson has gone on record to call him an “Old man”.

He told Open Goal podcast: “I just think that Goldson looks like an old man at this minute. And I hate saying that.

“It’s a horrible thing seeing that last night (Wednesday against Dundee), did you see at the end of the game when Goldson, the ball’s played in behind him and he turns to get after it?

“Did you see it? He wasn’t under any pressure. It was just a ball coming over his head and he turned under no real pressure and he couldn’t move. It’s a shame.”

Connor Goldson risks being dropped from the Rangers side

Goldson’s recent performances for the club have fallen below the expected standard, raising concerns among fans and pundits alike.

Despite his past contributions and years of service to the club, the 31-year-old’s recent form has been disappointing, with lapses in concentration and sluggishness on the pitch.

Such performances are unacceptable for a player of Goldson’s calibre, especially considering the high expectations placed on Rangers players.

If the Englishman does not improve his form and address the issues evident in his recent displays, he risks being dropped from the starting eleven.

With competition for places in the team and the need for consistency at a critical juncture in the season, Philippe Clement may have no choice but to consider alternative options in defence.

Ultimately, Goldson must recognise the gravity of his situation and strive to regain the form and focus that made him a key player for Gers in the past.
