Rangers: BBC pundit claims Philippe Clement now taken aback amid recent twist

Neil Lennon believes that Philippe Clement has been left taken aback by what’s going on with Rangers amid their recent title challenge.

Gers have dropped four points from their last two games as they have handed Celtic the initiative in the race for the SPFL crown.

Lennon, a BBC pundit, believes that the Belgian will be taken aback by the constant scrutiny and what’s being said about the Ibrox outfit.

He told PLZ Soccer, via the Daily Record: “I had my suspicions about Rangers after the game against Celtic.

“I thought in the first half they were poor, mentally as well. They put in a good comeback, but overall I was concerned about the level of performance. That is come to the fore. They have totally handed the initiative to Celtic, and Celtic have been there and done it.”

“I think the players know all about the expectations.

“I think Philippe is finding out all about it more than any of the players. A lot of the players have been there for a long, long time. Now all of a sudden he has come into this and everything was good for a while, but I think he has been taken aback by the scrutiny and the analysis of every facet of your performance.”

Philippe Clement must handle the scrutiny at Rangers

When managing a high-profile club like Gers, scrutiny is inevitable due to the club’s history, passionate fan base and high expectations for success.

Clement, as the manager, faces intense pressure to deliver results and maintain a winning streak in domestic and international competitions.

The team’s performance, tactics and player management are closely analysed by fans, pundits and the media.

Even minor setbacks, such as a draw or defeat, can attract significant criticism and questions about the manager’s decisions.

Additionally, the scrutiny extends beyond the pitch, as the manager is also expected to handle player transfers, team morale, and public relations adeptly.

Any perceived misstep can lead to scrutiny and questioning of the manager’s suitability for the role.

Furthermore, as the face of the club, Clement must also navigate the cultural and social expectations surrounding the club, adding another layer of complexity to his role.
