Rangers: Government stance emerges as Celtic in transfer race for Eduard Spertsyan
Rangers and Celtic are both keen on securing the services of Krasnodar attacking midfielder Eduard Spertsyan, according to HITC.
The news outlet claimed on 19 April that the British government is likely to cause a roadblock in any deal as they’re not expected to sanction a move for the 23-year-old or anyone based in Russia.
Despite Spertsyan being an Armenia international, the fact that he plays for a Russian club and the crisis in Ukraine, the deal is not likely to go through.
Rangers must look for alternative and more likely transfers
The 23-year-old has been a standout player, with nine goals and two assists in 22 league appearances this season, showcasing his talent as a set-piece specialist and a creative force in the attacking third.
His skills and versatility make him an attractive prospect for Rangers, who are in need of bolstering their midfield options.
However, the geopolitical issues stemming from the crisis in Ukraine pose a significant obstacle to any potential deal.
This situation forces Gers to consider alternative options to strengthen their squad.
In light of the difficulties in acquiring the Armenian, they could explore other European leagues, such as the Dutch Eredivisie, where there is a wealth of young talent with similar profiles to Spertsyan.

The good thing is that Celtic also won’t be getting their hands on him so it will not be a transfer battle or a potential bidding war.
In other Rangers news, a pundit has issued a claim on a player’s salary with a first-team Ibrox exit possible this summer.
