Rangers: Chris Jack shares John Lundstram contract update amid Ipswich Town transfer speculation
Rangers are unlikely to agree and announce a new contract for John Lundstram before the end of the season, according to Chris Jack.
The English midfielder’s current deal expires at the end of the season and reports have suggested both Ipswich Town [Ezgi Alp, 18 April] and Trabzonspor are eager to secure his signature on a free transfer this summer.
Philippe Clement has previously suggested he would be keen to see the 30-year-old agree a new deal at Ibrox, but Rangers Review journalist Jack believes the Gers know the news of his extension would not be well received by supporters.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (19 April) he said: “I asked the manager about this a couple of weeks ago and he said he was happy with Lundstram and he wanted a contract signed. Since then his form has not been good.
“I think we’re waiting until the end of the season and I’d be surprised if Rangers decide now is the time because you know what the reaction will be. Can you imagine the replies to the Rangers’ Twitter post?
“You just know exactly what the reaction is going to be. Either way, now is not the time.”
Will John Lundstram leave Rangers in the summer transfer window amid Ipswich Town interest?
Only a matter of weeks ago, supporters and pundits were united in their belief that the Gers simply had to do everything they could to ensure Lundstram couldn’t walk away for nothing come the end of the season.
But the Englishman’s recent dip in form partnered with the Light Blues’ poor run in the Scottish Premiership has seen public opinion shift dramatically and fans now seem willing to drive the midfielder to Ipswich.

The longer the Gers leave negotiations with Lundstram, the more interest there will be as we get closer to the summer transfer window. If his form picks up again, it could be hard for the Gers to agree a deal.
Hopefully, a final decision will be reached one way or another so that Clement and his recruitment team can begin planning for next season in Glasgow. With or without Lundstram, the Belgian simply has to add to his midfield this summer.
In other Rangers news, one BBC Sport pundit believes that Clement has been left “shellshocked” by recent events at Ibrox
