Dundee v Rangers fiasco: Where fine will go after ‘Stinging’ response from Ibrox

Dundee have claimed that a proportion of their fine for issues with a waterlogged pitch is due as compensation to Sky Sports – but it is reportedly to help the SPFL cover costs incurred by the row between Dundee and Rangers, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The report on the back page and page 79 on 19 April revealed Rangers’ “stinging response” to having the match between the two clubs called off for a second time, with the Gers asking the SPFL to take action following Dundee’s “negligence and unprofessionalism”.

Dundee have disputed the nature of the fine, but it has been reported that their claims are incorrect.

Rangers furious after Dundee disruption

Rangers have made no attempts to hide their displeasure at the disruption caused by issues with Dundee’s Dens Park pitch.

Their two postponements against the Gers represented the fourth and fifth instances of a game having to be rearranged at Dens Park this season due to the playing surface becoming waterlogged and unusable as a result.

In both cases, Rangers were informed that the game would not be going ahead at late notice – three days before the game in the first instance and then on the day of the match earlier this month.

The result of the fixture when it was eventually played – a 0-0 draw that leaves the Gers three points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership standings with a poorer goal difference – has been detrimental to their title aspirations.

Dundee are reportedly considering lodging an appeal, following legal advice – Rangers, though, will feel their punishment could have been more severe.
