Rangers Women: Jo Potter shares frustrated verdict after Premier League defeat v Hearts

Rangers Women’s manager Jo Potter was left frustrated by her side’s wasteful defeat to Hearts in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

The Light Blues missed the chance to keep their place at the top of the table as they were beaten 1-0 on Wednesday (17 April) night, with Katie Lockwood’s second-half strike proving to be the difference between the sides.

Potter’s Gers had boosted their title hopes with an impressive 4-1 win over Glasgow City last time out, but the Rangers boss was left questioning her side’s mentality following their disappointing defeat.

Speaking to RangersTV on Wednesday (17 April) she said: “I’m not very happy as you can imagine, it’s tough because I thought the game should have been out of sight at halftime, we should have been at least 3-0 up.

“We can’t give up those opportunities. I think we had 19 shots in the first half and that’s the story of the game. If you don’t come here and do it, it doesn’t matter. We keep saying every single game matters.

“These games matter, you can’t just get up for your City and your Celtics and hope to just run over a team like this, because they’re a very good side. We’ve got to learn our lessons from tonight.”

Rangers Women hand Celtic the advantage in the title race with defeat to Hearts

Like the men’s side at Ibrox, the Gers have allowed Celtic back into the title race with a disappointing performance against a team they really should be beating, despite showing their class against Glasgow City.

The two sides are level on points and with another Premier League Old Firm clash to come before the end of the season, Rangers will know that the title race is still in their hands, even if their hopes suffered a new dent.

Hopefully, Potter’s messaging will have resonated with the Light Blues and they will get back to winning ways and rediscover that clinical edge in the final third when they face Partick Thistle on Sunday (21 April).

Ultimately, nothing is decided in April and while the pressure is now back on Potter to turn things around, a potential treble is still on the cards at Ibrox this season.
