Rangers: Simon Jordan makes ‘unacceptable’ Philippe Clement admission after loss v Dundee
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has to take some of the blame for his side’s “unacceptable” performances against Ross County and Dundee, according to Simon Jordan.
The Light Blues missed the opportunity to leapfrog Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership as they were once again uninspiring in their 0-0 draw at Dens Park on Wednesday (17 April) evening.
While much of the criticism has been directed at several of the Gers players for their performances in both matches, Jordan has insisted that the blame lies at Clement’s door after Rangers “handed” the title back to Celtic.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (18 April, 10:52) he said: “Of course he has to, the team reflects leadership. Whilst I’m very happy to portion significant amounts of blame to players, he is the manager.
“It’s his team and the performance against Ross County was unacceptable. To lose that game, no disrespect to Ross County but they should be cannon fodder to Rangers and they weren’t and his reaction was one of disappointment and you would have expected a bounce back.
“Not just because of the noise around this fixture but because they needed a bounce back. You’re trying to win the league, and you’ve handed it back to Celtic.”
Philippe Clement and Rangers hand Celtic title advantage as Simon Jordan shares verdict
In each of the Gers’ last three matches, Clement’s selection decisions have been questioned by pundits and players alike as the Belgian has repeatedly opted to rest and rotate his squad rather than stick with a settled XI.
It is easy to point at the likes of Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence and suggest that they weren’t up to scratch at Dens Park, but you have to question why the Gers boss decided to start Fabio Silva ahead of Rabbi Matondo.

Rangers had worked so hard to drag themselves back into the title race under Clement and in the space of two games they have thrown their Premiership hopes away with two unacceptably poor performances.
While there is still an incredibly slim chance that the Light Blues may be able to drag themselves back to the top of the table in the final weeks of the season, they have shown little in the last few weeks to suggest they can beat Celtic at Parkhead.
