Rangers: Dundee handed six-figure fine by SPFL after Dens Park controversy

Dundee have been handed a £186,000 fine by the Scottish Premiership after the controversy surrounding the rearranged clash with Rangers at Dens Park.

As confirmed via the official SPFL website, Dundee admitted to five separate breaches of the rules surrounding the pitch at Dens Park, most recently the clash involving Rangers.

Philippe Clement’s side was initially supposed to face Dundee on 17 March before the rearranged fixture on 10 April was also postponed, leading to the clash eventually taking place on 17 April.

A spokesperson for the SPFL commented: “SPFL Rules on pitch condition are an integral part of maintaining a fair league competition.”

Rangers left frustrated by Dundee saga at Dens Park

The constant uncertainty surrounding this fixture left Clement frustrated as he – much to Chris Sutton’s amusement – insisted that it had harmed the team’s preparations ahead of the 3-2 defeat to Ross County at Dingwall.

Much had been made of the saga, with the likes of Simon Jordan speaking out to slam Rangers for the part they played in it all, accusing them of refusing to play the game in the buildup to the 3-3 Old Firm draw at Ibrox.

Not only that but to eventually get to play the fixture a month after it was initially supposed to take place and to limp to a frustrating 0-0 draw would have rubbed salt in Rangers’ wounds in a heavy blow to the ongoing title race.

Ultimately, the draw will prove the most frustrating element as Clement’s men allowed Celtic to remain three points ahead of them at the top of the table, putting the title in the hands of Brendan Rodgers’ team.
