Rangers: Chris Sutton left bemused by Philippe Clement after Dundee comments

Chris Sutton has slammed Philippe Clement for his immediate reaction to Rangers’ goalless draw against Dundee on Wednesday (17 April).

The Gers have gone three Scottish Premiership games without a win at this vital stage of the season and now are three points behind Celtic with the same number of games played.

The draw against Dundee was a frustrating night for Rangers as they failed to score away at Dens Park.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (17 April, 10:19 pm), Sutton reacted to Clement after he said the home side were “lucky” live on Sky Sports after full time [Daily Record].

He said: “I don’t know what game he was watching. To call Dundee lucky – they weren’t lucky. He did say that Rangers lacked a spark. He said that people shouldn’t jump to conclusions. The conclusion is that in a huge game – a huge couple of games – they haven’t stepped up when they needed to.

“We’re at the business end of the season and they needed to build momentum. They’re losing momentum at this moment in time and that is not a good look.”

Could Rangers have won v Dundee?

At the business end of the season, the Light Blues need to be in better form than they are now. They needed to bounce back with a draw to Celtic and a defeat to Ross County behind them.

Clement never got this reaction and the home side had the ball in the net. Jack Butland made a string of top saves before conceding but the Dundee players were offside.

According to FotMob, Rangers kept 66 per cent of the ball and translated that into chances with 17 shots.

These efforts on goal only saw five on target which equated to 1.06 xG which Jon McCracken kept out well.

The attacking side of the Gers’ performance was poor as none of the forwards made a positive impact of note.

Roofe had just one shot off target, Fabio Silva and Todd Cantell had efforts blocked while Abdallah Sima missed a golden chance.

Clement’s side dominated the proceedings but lacked conviction in front of goal in the end.
