Chris Sutton reacts to footage of Rangers fans after what happened at Dens Park v Dundee

Chris Sutton has claimed that Rangers are “crumbling” after their 0-0 draw against Dundee at Dens Park on 17 April, suggesting that fans “aren’t happy”.

The Gers’ contest at Dens Park had twice been postponed due to pitch issues but went ahead at the third time of asking – and Philippe Clement’s side came into the game needing a response after their shock 3-2 defeat at Ross County.

However, they were only able to produce a limp performance in the goalless stalemate and Sutton feels their season will be viewed as a disappointment despite the promise shown earlier in the campaign.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Football [10:20pm, 17 April], he said: “Unfortunately for [Clement], people look at the whole season and they’ll say Rangers finish second and we know in Glasgow that finishing second is last.

“We saw the reaction from the Rangers fans at the end – they aren’t happy. He’s got this Rangers team back into a title race and then, all of a sudden, they’re crumbling.”

Is it too late for Rangers to save their season?

The Gers’ season held so much promise, but now their campaign appears on the brink of collapse.

The Scottish Premiership title has steadily inched away from them and their fate is no longer in their hands.

A 3-3 draw with Celtic in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox Stadium on 7 April saw Rangers miss an opportunity to go two points clear of their rivals with a game in hand.

That result was followed by a damaging 3-2 defeat against Ross County on 14 April that left Clement’s men needing to win all their remaining league matches – including and especially against Celtic at Parkhead – in order to guarantee the title.

But the pressure appears to have gotten to the team at the first hurdle, with the 0-0 draw at Dundee – which was their game in hand – leaving Rangers three points adrift of their title rivals with poorer goal difference and fewer goals scored.

However, Rangers must resurrect their form immediately so as to take advantage should Celtic slip up between now and the end of the campaign. In addition, the Gers have a Scottish FA Cup semi-final with Hearts next up on 21 April and, even if the league title should elude them, securing a cup double would go some way towards mitigating that disappointment.
