Rangers: Philippe Clement makes new Kemar Roofe admission live on air ahead of Dundee clash
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has admitted he expects to substitute Kemar Roofe during the Light Blues Premiership clash with Dundee.
The Gers finally make the trip to Dens Park on Wednesday (17 April) as they look to get back to winning ways in the race for the Scottish Premiership title having suffered a shock defeat to Ross County last time out.
In a surprising selection twist, Clement has opted to start Roofe ahead of Cyriel Dessers as the Gers’ number nine. The Jamaican international has struggled for fitness this season and Clement expects to substitute him.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound on Wednesday (17 April, 7:30) he said: “Now is the moment for Kemar to take and Cyriel will be hungry on the bench if necessary to take minutes.
“I don’t expect Kemar to be ready for 90 minutes after all the injuries he’s had this season and over the last couple of seasons.”
Has Cyriel Dessers picked up a new injury for Rangers ahead of Dundee clash?
There would have been fears around supporters that Dessers had picked up a new blow when he wasn’t named in the Gers’ starting XI for the clash at Dens Park, but it appears that Clement just wanted to rotate his forward options.
The Nigerian forward has had to play almost every minute of every game in 2024 after Roofe and Danilo picked up new injuries, but it now seems as though the Jamaican forward is in a position where he can play more regularly.

It would be ridiculous to assume that he would come back into the fold and immediately play 90 minutes from the off, but it is a step in the right direction that Clement now trusts him enough to feature from the off without picking up a knock.
Hopefully, the striker will get through his minutes unscathed and supporters will be hoping he can show a bit more bite in front of goal than Dessers as his goals could be key in the remainder of the title race.
